Long serving and experienced employees

The long service of employees is a feature at Bestwood II, with vast knowledge being brought to bear on the operations. Stuart Griffin, Site Safety Representative, is one example. The Arnold resident has nearly 40 years under his belt, including time at nearby Hoveringham Quarry. Only 11 years behind him, with 30 years service, is Maria Gillott the Site Administrator and Weighbridge Operator.

Dannika Bannon, Quarry Manager, said: “Our people are hugely experienced and this benefits us enormously. Stuart has worked in many roles over his career and applies his practical knowledge to great effect in his safety role and Maria has an intimate understanding of everything that enters and leaves the site.”

Tarmac seeks good causes

All our employees and managers are encouraged to donate a portion of their working time to local good causes, and staff at Bestwood II are currently on the look-out for projects to lend their support to. A wide range of projects can be considered, with employees typically giving up a full day of their time to complete a range of tasks. Previous examples from across the UK include clearing parkland, planting bulbs, decorating a community centre and restoring a children’s play area. Our employee volunteering scheme is a key part of our wider sustainability strategy, which includes goals relating to employee volunteering hours.
