Bestwood II Quarry

Supporting Local Projects

We are committed to being a good neighbour in our local communities. As part of this we’re proud to regularly support local community projects through sponsorship and donations.

Whilst we don't landfill at Bestwood II, The Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund is a fund that enables aggregate operators as well as landfill operators to donate part of their annual tax liability to community and environmental projects. Since the Landfill Communities Fund was established in 1996, we have donated more than £20 million to local communities and projects throughout the UK.

Around Bestwood II Quarry, for example:

  • We have donated funding for Ravenshead Village Hall.
  • We have supported Papplewick Village Fayre (PAPPFEST) by contributing towards a generator and signage.
  • We are supplying Ravenshead Primary School with sand for their sandpit.

At our other sites we have supported sports clubs and Nottinghamshire YMCA with equipment and upgrades to facilities, delivered a new toddler play park at Winthorpe, provided funding for Whisby Nature Park to improve facilities at the Natural World Centre, particularly for people with disabilities, and created a ladybird trail.

To apply for small scale projects please contact the site directly at [email protected] To apply for larger funding please email [email protected]. Projects can only be considered if they are within four miles of a Tarmac site.

Tarmac in the Community

All our employees and managers are encouraged to donate a portion of their working time to local good causes, and staff at Bestwood II are currently on the look-out for projects to lend their support to. A wide range of projects can be considered, with employees typically giving up a full day of their time to complete a range of tasks. Previous examples from across the UK include clearing parkland, planting bulbs, decorating a community centre and restoring a children’s play area. Our employee volunteering scheme is a key part of our wider sustainability strategy, which includes goals relating to employee volunteering hours. If you have a project that could use an extra pair of hands, please let us know.
